Finally there’s a light at the end of this cold weather tunnel: farmers’ markets are opening this month! Here are seven reasons to get out to your local farmers’ market:
Support our community. Not only will you see friendly familiar faces each week, but it’ll feel good to support local farmers and artisans.
Stumble upon some cool food finds not available in your grocery store. Where else can you score mulberry jam or sriracha-infused pickles?
Enjoy vibrant seasonal produce. That head of broccoli never looked so good. While gathering the familiar spring fare, why not add some novelty - like rhubarb, turnips, or leeks for a food experiment?
Sit back, relax, and people-watch (and dog-watch) after strolling through stalls.
Enjoy delicious baked goodies. Nothing beats fresh baked muffins, cookies, and pies (especially when you don’t have to hassle with the baking). Well-deserved treats after that Saturday morning boot camp!
You’ll come across other fun stuff. Like the colorful flower stall or the soulful guitarist strumming in the corner.
Knock out your gift shopping. A beeswax candle, pack of granola, or bag of beans from that small batch coffee roastery can make the perfect thank you token.
Here in the Nation’s Capital, we have so many farmers’ markets to choose from, and I love to make it part of my warm weather weekend routine. Why not hit one up this weekend?
