I have a raging sweet tooth. Like a need-something-sweet-after-every-single-meal tooth. And I don’t want to substitute each morsel of chocolate for something uber-healthy yet unsatisfying (no offense, sliced fruit). What I want is a treat to hit the spot without negating my hard work at boot camp. Below are some quick and tasty options I turn to when my sweet tooth lights up. Enjoy!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse. Take a cup of vanilla Greek yogurt. Stir in a tablespoon of creamy peanut butter and a teaspoon of cocoa powder. Devour alone or with pieces of fruit (my favorites are sliced bananas and strawberries).
Apple Bake. Cut two apples into bite-sized pieces. Mix with handful of raisins and nut bits (pecans or walnuts are especially delicious). Top with a pat of butter and a drizzle of honey. Bake in shallow pan at 375 for 30 minutes or until brown. Sprinkle with cinnamon before serving. This is also a great yogurt topping.
S’mores Sundae. Add a spoonful of chocolate chips and marshmallows, and a few crushed graham crackers to vanilla frozen yogurt. No campfire needed.
Sinful Oatmeal. While your oatmeal is hot, mix in a few squares of dark chocolate, a handful of raw walnut pieces, and a teaspoon of coconut oil. Who says you can’t have dessert for breakfast?
Mint hot chocolate. Mix a heaping tablespoon of cocoa powder and dash of honey into steaming hot milk. Then, drop in a peppermint or small candy cane. Stir, sip, and enjoy. Perfect for cold winter months.
Dessert Pizza. Toast a slice of bread or English muffin. Top with two tablespoons crunchy peanut butter and banana slices. Finish with a drizzle of honey or chocolate sauce. Warning: this one’s addictive.
Simple, delicious, and satisfying. My kind of dessert. Not indulgent enough? Then go ahead and dive into your favorite cheesecake and ice cream. We can work ‘em off with all those squats, mountain climbers, and crunches tomorrow morning.
